Baidu Browser for desktop

Baidu browser 2.0

China’s biggest web services provider, Baidu, has recently launched a new version of its browser, Baidu Browser 2.0, currently a free beta version.

The browser has been said to be a copy of Google’s Chrome visually, with a unified search and address bar and built-in apps, but unlike this browser, it lacks most of the multimedia features so needed today. For instance, it doesn’t fully support HTML5, MPEG-4 or most audio elements (like Ogg Vorbis or PCM audio). It scores a total of 137 points on html5test.com, whereas other browsers, such as Firefox or Chrome score 345 and 402 respectively.

Maybe the most attractive feature of Baidu Browser 2.0 is its initial screen, which you can personalize with icons of your recent searches and preferred apps (Baidu has its own offer of more than 30,000 apps), just like a mobile screen.

Chrome also features downloadable apps, but what makes Baidu different is that its apps get downloaded to the cloud instead to your computer.

Baidu Browser 2.0 is currently available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS.
