Building a website in a few steps

Are you planning to create your new website for 2015 but you don’t know where to start? This article explains how to build your site in a few steps.

      1 – Establish your goals

The first thing you have to do is describe what you want to achieve, what your budget is and how much time you will spend on it. There are several questions you will have to answer:

      •  In which market do you want to be focused on?
      • What is your target audience?
      • When do you want to launch your website?
      • How much money do you want to invest on this project?
      • How much time will you spend on this creation and when will you start?

Tip: don’t try to sell everything to everybody, try to focus on only one type of products. Your target must be a specific market to get better results.

2 – Look for examples of web business with the same characteristics as yours

Examine every website, look what their achievements and failures are. Try to take the best of them, observe what they are offering and try to adapt that to your future website.

3 –  Sketch your website on a paper

Define what you will include, the elements to integrate,  the style you prefer, including fonts and colors, the information on you home page. It is really important to define the keywords and the arguments to convince your clients of purchasing the products. So, you have to create your sales letter, in which you will explain the benefits of your products and you will convince your visitants which products they need and want.

4 – Start to build your web

There is a wide range of ways to design your website. One way is using the HTML programming language to give format to static websites. Apart from this, there are other complementary programming languages that help static websites to become into dynamic websites, such as PHP, which is a programming language used by the CMC or content manager (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal).

      5 – Domain and server

Then you will have to decide the name of your domain once your website is programmed and it will be visualized in the browser URL like http://www.mydomain.com. On the ther hand, server is the place where all the content of our website will be hosted. Domain and server are linked through IP addresses that are set up on the server to work with Internet. These IP addresses are assigned to the domain to mark this server, and when you enter www.mydomain.com, you will be able to see your website online.

      6 – CSS styles

After you have decided the server and the domain, you have to give format to the content of your website. For this purpose, you can use CSS styles (cascading style sheets) to decide the color, size, borders and animations, all of this combined with the HTML5 programming language (which replaces the Flash program) in order to improve your SEO.

      7 – Templates

You have also to choose a template, which is a complement of the content manager (CMS). A template is a set of files designed with rules to make it compatible with The CMC. They incorporate the HTML and CSS codes which will appear on our website.

      8 – SEO

Until now, you have read how to build your website. But once it is created, you have to position it on the first’s results on the Google browser. To monitor your SEO campaign, you can use the tools explained in this article.

      9 –  Social networks

Finally, you have to integrate social networks buttons to gain a higher profile in the field you want to be focused on.
